We plan our routes to try and ensure the same Service Team Operative completes your service visit. This helps you get to know us and vice versa, and it also means we avoid disturbing your staff by asking where the washrooms are located each time we visit.

You will instantly receive an email with a copy of our service record and waste transfer document on completion of the service visit. We will also highlight potential issues that may need to be addressed in a future service visit or by an external contractor.
Tailored Service
Wilson Washroom Services feminine hygiene services normally operate on a four-weekly, two-weekly or weekly basis (that’s either 13, 26 or 52 services per annum). However, we also offer short-term service agreements for events including music and arts festivals or sports tournaments. We can provide short-term services for seasonal customers such as caravan parks or tourist attractions who see an uptick in footfall at certain times of the year; for example, we could provide a weekly service in July, August and September and revert to four-weekly visits for the rest of the year, depending on your business needs.

Is feminine hygiene waste hazardous?
While feminine hygiene waste is unpleasant, in the UK it is classed as offensive waste rather than hazardous waste. SEPA (the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) state that offensive waste should be segregated into yellow and black bags (tiger stripe) and disposed of in a licensed disposal facility. Wilson Washrooms is SEPA registered and we adhere to these standards.
I don’t separate my hygiene waste at home so why do it at work?
You should absolutely separate your waste. At home, used sanitary products should go in the general waste bin. Never flush them down the toilet.
For any premises with toilets – referred to in the industry as the ‘away from home’ sector – facility managers and business owners are required to complete a risk assessment to see if there is enough offensive waste to deem separation of waste necessary for professional disposal. A rule of thumb is that if you generate more than 7kg of offensive waste per annum it should be disposed of separately. The reality is that it can be unpleasant for staff to deal with without specialist training and equipment.
Another factor is potential plumbing problems and blockages. Sanitary towels and tampons increase the likelihood of toilet blockages, and the cost of an emergency plumbing contractor would be considerably more than a professional service provider who regularly deals with your feminine hygiene waste disposal.
How do I dispose of used sanitary products?
Recent legal, health and environmental information has shown how used sanitary products that were flushed down the toilet (if not causing blockages locally) cause pollution. Overflowing or unavailable bins in public toilets further exacerbates the problem. The best option is to use a sanitary bin which is specifically designed for the disposal of used sanitary products; this is also required by law for UK businesses under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.
What do I do if there is no sanitary bin in my workplace toilet?
As stated, it is a legal requirement to have sanitary waste bins in all workplace washrooms. Speak to your employer or facilities manager to install sanitary bins as a matter of urgency or they may face a fine. You should use a general waste bin until the correct facilities are available, ensuring the used products are wrapped for discretion.
Do I need a sanitary bin in every toilet?
Not at all, but it is appropriate to put signage to advise where sanitary disposal facilities are available. Industry standards suggest that feminine hygiene waste should be removed every 4 weeks for every 10 female members of staff.
